The Purple Line is a 16.2-mile (26.1 km) Rapid Transit line[6] under construction to link the Maryland suburbs of Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton, all in the Washington metropolitan area.[7] The line will allow riders to move between the Maryland branches of the Red, Green, and Orange lines of the Washington Metro without needing to ride into central Washington, D.C.
