It was a good news/bad news fiscal update presented to the Allegany County Board of Education during this month’s regular public meeting. That report, from Finance Director Randy Bittinger, revealed that the recent level of expenditures over income is expected to cause the board’s general fund to decline by more than 50 percent. According to the most recent numbers, the board’s general fund, which is basically a savings account it has discretion over, is expected to decrease from $12.6 million as of June 30, 2012, to $5 million for fiscal year 2014. That will see a bottom line hit of more than seven and a half million dollars.
