Footer Building Renovation Could Begin If Approved Next Week

After years and years of talk about development opportunities at the Footer Dye Works building at Canal Place, if approval from the State Board of Public Works comes next week- actual renovations and construction can begin. The Footer building renovation is expected to receive $1.15 million in state funding.  In anticipation of final approval by the Board of Public Works on August 5, Mike Joy, developer for the Footer project, said work will begin soon after. Based in Washington, D.C., Joy and his partners will manage a $9 million renovation of the four-story historic building. Plans include a restaurant and brewpub on the first floor with the possibility of retail shop space. The second floor will be offices with the remaining floors having loft apartments. While there are many critics of the plan, not wanting to see tax payer dollars helping to support a private development, Delegate Jason Buckel said it was time for the state to decide between letting it fall apart or putting money into it…
