Former ACPS Transportation Director Dies

Former Allegany County Public Schools Transportation Director Larry Humbertson has passed away.

Humbertson, 65, of Cresaptown, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Cumberland on June 15, 1954, he lived the majority of his life in Cresaptown. Larry was the son of the late Joseph and Thelma (Athey) “ Marnie” Humbertson.

Larry was a graduate of Allegany High School class of 1972. Following high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his discharge, Larry was employed at Powlen Equipment Company. He later owned and operated Larry’s Sunoco in Cresaptown. He then was employed by the Allegany County Board of Education retiring on April 1, 2019 as the Supervisor of Transportation. Larry was employed in every position in the Transportation Department at the Board of Education starting his career in 1992 as an assistant mechanic.

Larry was a 47 year member of the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department where he served in many positions, a 38 year member of the Western Maryland Street Rod Association where he had served as the associations past president, Concession Manager of the Allegany County Fair, and he was CEO of Action Demolition Derby.

Larry is survived by his wife of nine years, Jennie R. (Clark) Humbertson; children, Joseph T. Humbertson and wife Dawn, and Autumn N. Pratt; Step children, Edward Clark, Shania Tkaczuk, and Thomas G. Tkaczuk and Alexis Beckman; grandchildren, Nathan Speir, Anthony Pratt, Hadley Humbertson, Madison Pratt, and Jeffrey Clark; Brother, David Humbertson and wife Rhonda; sister, Nancy Seefried and husband Rev. Richard Seefried; sister-in-law, Pennie Nave and husband Doug.

Friends will be received at the Allegany County Fair Grounds, Multi-Purpose Building, on Monday, September 2, 2019 from 1-6 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted following the visitation at 6 P.M., with his brother-in-law, Pastor Richard Seefried officiating. At the conclusion of the funeral service, military honors will be accorded by the member of the Vietnam Veterans Association.

At Larry request, he will be cremated.
