Former Commissioner Lewis Passes Away

Longtime Allegany County official and one of the leaders of the local Republican Party, Dale Lewis passed away Thursday morning at home following a lengthy illness. Lewis served as a County Commissioner and Board of Education member for several years, beginning his elected career at the school board in 1980 and serving to 1992, and then serving three terms as a county commissioner, from 1994 to 2002, and then from 2006 to 2010. He was a 1954 graduate of Valley High School in Lonaconing and attended Allegany College of Maryland. He most recently was a real estate agent with Robinson and Skidmore Professional Real Estate Company. He was formerly employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland.
