Former County Administrator Passes Away

The longest serving county administrator in Allegany County government’s history passed away Sunday in Hagerstown at the age of 53. Vance Ishler, who served as administrator from 1999 to 2009, held the position for a decade.  Ishler began experiencing health, legal  and other issues in his final few years on the job, taking several leaves of absenses before a mutual parting of ways was announced by the County Commissioners. The Commissioners at the time of Ishler’s departure were Jim Stakem, Robert Hutcheson and Dale Lewis. Ishler’s health issues continued to be a problem after his leaving the post, until his passing a few days ago. One of those who worked closely with Ishler during his stint as administrator was Jerry Frantz, who has since retired as the county’s finance director…
