Former Cumberland City Councilman Harold “Butch” Hendershot Dies

Harold "Butch" Hendershot, 62, died Saturday at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore.  

Hendershot served on Cumberland City Council for 18 years, He was known for his advocacy for city beautification projects, founding "Let's Beautify Cumberland" and supporting the annual "Day of Caring and Sharing".  

Hendershot had been a longtime manager at Archway Station and was a local leader in the mental health field.  He was a member of the Western Maryland Catholic Distinguished Alumni.  Recently a park at the corner of Greene and Baltimore Streets in Cumberland was dedicated to Hendershot for his work with "Let's Beautify Cumberland."  

Hendershot is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and five children;  Jenny, Amy, Ben, Chris, and Greg.  He is also survived by two grandchildren, Sam and Vincent DiFonzo. Arrangements are pending.
