Two former local Food Lion stores sold in July will reopen Friday as Weis Markets. The stores at 15300 McMullen Highway, Bel Air, and 17600 Old National Pike, Frostburg, were among 38 in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware purchased by Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis.
Both stores are in the conversion process, the company said in a statement. Signage at the Bel Air store was being changed Tuesday.
Three other Maryland stores — Owings Mill, Eldersburg and Resiterstown — will also reopen Friday. Five more will reopen next week.
Conversion of all 38 stores is expected to be complete by the end of October.
Weis is planning to hire more than 2,000 current Food Lion employees.
