Former Frederick County Commissioner Blaine Young faces prostitution charges in Anne Arundel County, court records show. The Baltimore Sun reports

Young, 44, who served as president of the Frederick County Board of Commissioners from 2010 to 2014, is charged with four misdemeanor counts of prostitution, according to online court records.

Court records show the charges stem from a Feb. 18. Anne Arundel County police spokesman Lt. Ryan Frashure said Young was arrested as part of a prostitution sting.

Young was served a court summons on Monday, court records show. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a fine of $500.

Young's attorney Peter Sean O'Neill said the charges are merely allegations.

"There is no proof that Mr. Young has committed a crime. He intends to plead not guilty and he intends to present a case that disproves the charges filed against him by the state's attorney's office," O'Neill said.

Young ran as a Republican candidate for county executive in Frederick County in 2014, losing the seat to County Executive Jan Gardner, a Democrat. The county switched from a commissioner form of government to a charter government with an elected county executive that same year.

Before entering the race for county executive, Young considered a run in the 2014 gubernatorial race to replace former Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley.

It was reported by The Frederick-News Post that Young made an announcement at a Frederick County Council meeting after the election that he was involved in a romantic relationship with the county's budget officer Regina Williams. Young was separated from his wife at the time.

In a Facebook posting that was later removed, Young wrote:

"I make no excuses for my actions as there are NONE," Young wrote. "I am very very sorry to Regina, my children my family and friends. I am seeking and getting the help that I need. I have over come [sic] many problems in my life but I obviously still have demons to deal with and conquer. Please give my loved ones the space and support they need."

In 2001 when Young was an alderman for the City of Frederick, The Frederick-News Post reported his name was one of hundreds uncovered in the "black book" of an escort service. Young asserted at the time that he hired the woman for dance parties, not for sex.

Young's family is an established brand in Frederick County politics.

His father, Ron Young, was a four-term mayor of Frederick who later went on to be elected to to the Maryland General Assembly. Ron's wife, Karen Lewis Young, was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2014.

Blaine's brother Brad is a member of Frederick County's Board of Education.

He divorced his ex-wife Karen last September according to online court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23, and a trial is scheduled for June 27.
