Former Head of School Security Believes Estimates are Inflated

The former head of security for the Allegany County school system and a current candidate for a seat on the board tells WCBC News that he questions the costs projections he has heard necessary to have a resource officer in every school. With the recent rash of school shootings, a focus on having armed law enforcement officers in every school in the state has become a priority. Superintendent David Cox said that the best estimates available from the state to hire an additional 13 SRO’s would be between $1.2 and $1.5 million.  Robert Farrell who headed up school security during a time when SRO’s were being hired, said that he believes those are drastically inflated cost estimates. He said each officer should only cost the system about $30,000 annually…
