Tressie Montene (Bosley) Duffy, 45, a doctor in Martinsburg and a former resident of Keyser, was convicted in federal court Wednesday of facilitating the unlawful distribution of narcotic painkillers through her medical practice, United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced.

Duffy operated West Virginia West and Wellness, Inc., a clinic located in Martinsburg. She leveraged her practice at that clinic to illegally distribute painkillers. Duffy signed blank prescription orders and allowed unlicensed members of her staff to issue prescriptions for narcotic medications to patients that had not been seen by a physician.

Duffy pled guilty today to seven counts of “Aiding and Abetting the Distribution of Oxycodone.” She faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000 on each of the seven counts. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Camilletti prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated.

U.S. Magistrate Judge James E. Seibert presided.
