Former U.S. Education Secretary John King has announced his bid to become Maryland's next governor.
King, who served in the Obama administration, will pursue the Democratic nomination. As governor, King said he would focus on education, climate change and what he called systemic inequality.
He is the current president and CEO of the Education Trust, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying and closing opportunity and achievement gaps.
