Franchot Calling For Freeze On Tax And Fee Hikes

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot once again is calling a two-year freeze on tax and fee hikes, including any increase in the state’s gas tax.  Franchot’s call for a tax moratorium comes as Governor Martin O’Malley and state lawmakers debate the possibility during the current legislative session. It’s the second consecutive session the governor has pushed such an increase. Franchot said despite some signs that the economy is starting to turn around, any more taxes; particularly a hike to the gas or sales tax would be devastating for most Maryland resident.
