Franchot Comments on Coal Market Share Under Trump Administration

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot says he sees coal regaining some market share as President-elect Donald Trump promises to put more miners back to work. Franchot said that that coal is good for areas such as Western Maryland as it helps make coal-fired plants more profitable when natural gas and electricity prices rise.  He  doesn't see the economics shifting enough to spur the construction of new coal-generating capacity. Rather, he said, any gains would be through existing coal plants taking market share away from natural gas and, possibly. He tells WCBC News that its difficult for the coal industry and its workers to be subjected to what he called petty politics every election cycle, and both the state and national level…
