The Mineral County Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday evening to reinstate Frankfort High School teacher and football coach Kevin Whiteman.
The reinstatement takes effect July 1, 2018.
The vote came after a two hour executive session and a recommendation by Superintendent Shawn Dilly. Whiteman had been suspended for the past two years after allegations of inappropriate conduct surfaced.
That started an odyssey which included the case being brought before the Grand Jury which declined to indict him, a recommendation from a state board for reinstatement, followed by a decision less than a year ago by State Superintendent Stephen Paine to continue the suspension. That was overturned by a Special Circuit Court Judge a few weeks ago, saying that Paine had taken too long to rule on the matter.
A crowd of over 30 supporters broke into applause after the 5 to 0 vote, with Whiteman telling WCBC News he's happy to be able to return to the job he loves.
