Frederick Man Killed In Accident

On Friday, members of the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barracks responded to a report of a two vehicle crash involving a passenger car and truck tractor that occurred on US 340 East (Jefferson Pike) in the area of MD 67 (Rohrersville Road).  Preliminary investigation into the collision revealed that a 2001 VW Jetta was traveling East on US 340 when, for unknown reasons, it lost control and traveled across the grassy center median and into the oncoming lanes of US 340 West.  A 2004 Freightliner Columbia truck tractor was traveling West in Lane #2 and was unable to avoid colliding with the VW.  The Freightliner struck the VW on its passenger side causing severe damage to both vehicles.  The driver of the Freightliner was identified as Gregory Steven Givens, 31, of Yemassee, SC was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.  The driver of the VW was identified as David James Forward, 56, of Frederick, MD was pronounced dead at the scene.

   Members of the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division also responded to assist in investigation.  No charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing.
