Friends Aware And Animal Shelter Requesting Funds

December 10th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

During this year’s session of the Maryland General Assembly, local lawmakers were able to secure bond money for a major project planned by Friends Aware in Cumberland- however the current, follow up request doesn’t seem realistic according to State Senator George Edwards. Friends Aware is planning a major building project. The Friends Aware building project is expected to cost $2 million. This year Friends Aware received $250,000 total but the request for next year is for more than $1.3 million.  The Allegany County Animal Shelter Animal Foundation has also made a request; it totals just $250,000 to go toward construction of a new shelter.  The Allegany County Commissioners will submit both requests to the delegation prior to the start of the 2013 general assembly session which opens next month. Edwards said while it’s fine to make such a request, given the limited bond funds available and the large number of project requests across the state- its highly unlikely that more than a million dollars would be approved for a single project…
