Frosh applauds ruling on Trump Travel Ban

Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh issued the following statement today following today’s ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit on President Trump’s travel ban on Muslims:

“The Fourth Circuit’s decision today is a ringing endorsement of religious freedom and the rule of law. The Court appropriately recognized that Trump’s Muslim ban was driven by intolerance and discrimination. It cannot stand.”

In April, Attorney General Frosh and Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring led a coalition of 17 Attorneys General in an amicus brief urging the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the district court ruling that struck down the ban as unconstitutional. The states’ brief explains the reasons that the district court’s decision should not be overturned on appeal, including the overwhelming and unrebutted evidence of anti-Muslim animus, the lack of evidence of a national security rationale, and the significant harms that the ban would cause the states, their residents, and their institutions.
