Frostburg Man Dies in Snowy Accident Saturday Night

A Frostburg man was killed Saturday night in a single vehicle accident on Route 40 east of Finzel Road in Garrett County.  A passenger, 42 year old William Volk, died when the vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned.   Maryland State Police report severe wind and snow at the time of the 11:03 pm accident.  The driver of the 2008 Ford F250 was 41 year old Veryl Rafferty, Jr.  Two other passengers, Edward McAteer, 36, and Philip Krauss 42, both of Frostburg, refused medical treatment at the scene.   Responding to the scene were Eastern Garrett Fire and Rescue, Frostburg Ambulance Company, and the State Highway Administration.
