Frostburg Man Held Without Bond On Assault & Burglary Charges

On Friday at 6:34 PM, officers of the Frostburg Police Department responded to a S. Grant Street apartment building for a reported burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, officers located a witness holding the suspect down. The suspect was detained by police at that time. Further investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Daniel Jason Lancaster, 37 years of age, Frostburg, had been attempting to break into an unoccupied apartment by using a crowbar. Additional residents in a neighboring apartment heard the noise as Lancaster attempted to gain access, and one of the residents confronted Lancaster. When Lancaster was confronted, he allegedly attempted to assault the neighboring resident with the crowbar, and then tackled the resident to the ground. Lancaster then allegedly used a set of nunchcuks, which had allegedly been wrapped around his neck, in an effort to assault the resident that confronted him. As the assault was occuring, an additional resident arrived and took control of Lancaster until police arrived.

Evidence was collected from the scene that corroborated witness statements. The door, door frame and door knob of the targeted apartment were damaged during the attempted burglary. The assault victim did not require medical treatment. As a result of the investigation, Lancaster was charged with the following: Burglary 1st Degree Burglary 4th Degree Possession of a Dangerous Weapon Possession of Burglary Tools Assault 1st Degree Assault 2nd Degree Destruction of Property Less Than $1,000.00. Lancaster was later processed and taken to the District Court Commissioner's Office for an Initial Appearance. Lancaster was held without bond.
