BREAKING: Frostburg State Bobcats To Host Western New England

November 11th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The sixth-ranked Frostburg football team will play host to Western New England in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Football Championship. The Golden Bears will travel to Frostburg for a noon kickoff at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, November 17 to take on the undefeated Bobcats.

Frostburg (9-0) and Western New England (8-2) have never met on the football field before. The Bobcats captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference title yesterday afternoon with a thrilling 38-35 overtime win over Salisbury.

Meanwhile, WNE defeated Becker in its regular-season finale, 52-0. Despite the win, Western New England needed a little help to secure the Commonwealth Coast Conference crown, as Salve Regina's 47-34 victory over Endicott broke a three-way tie and lifted the Golden Bears to their fourth consecutive conference championship.

Frostburg is making its second-straight trip to the NCAA Playoffs after earning an at-large spot last fall. The appearance is also just the third trip to the NCAAs for the Bobcats in the 58-year history of the program. The Bobcats are 3-2 in their five previous NCAA Playoff games. The last time Frostburg hosted an NCAA Playoff game was back in 1993 when the Bobcats welcomed Washington & Jefferson for a second-round matchup.

FSU enters the contest with the Golden Bears on a six-game home winning streak. In those six contests at Bobcat Stadium, Frostburg is outscoring its opponents by nearly 34 points.

The winner of FSU and WNE advances to the second round to take on the winner of Johns Hopkins and MIT.
