FSU Police Officer Punched While Breaking Up Early-Morning Fight

At about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 17, at Frostburg State University, a fight among about six men started at an exterior entranceway to Westminster Hall, a residence hall. Two FSU police officers entered the entranceway to break up the fight, at which point one was punched in the face, and pepper spray was deployed to break up the fight.

The officers had been on hand to disperse several groups of people totaling about 125 who were gathered in the area of the downhill residence halls following the end of a dance at the Lane University Center.

FSU Police and officers from allied police agencies (Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, Frostburg City Police and Maryland State Police) dispersed the crowds in the area within 30 minutes.

The FSU officer who was punched was taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment and released.

Multiple charges are pending against four individuals.
