Funding Issues Top Board Of Education Wish List

Not surprisingly, when the Allegany County Board of Education put together its legislative wish list to submit to local lawmakers last month- funding issues were right at the top. Pre-school funding and a cost of living budget adjustment were among the boards list of 18 items presented for consideration. Centered mainly around improving or stabilizing funding, the priorities are something the board hopes legislatures can promote during this session of the General Assembly. Officials say the Allegany County Public Schools system is down roughly $10 million in overall funding over the last six years. Funding has fallen from a high in fiscal 2009 of $86 million to $76 million last year. The board has been using its general fund in recent years to help balance the budget. Board President Nick Hadley tells WCBC News that anytime a new administration comes into office, there is a sense of uncertainty as to what to expect with the budget….
