The Montgomery County Council will adopt a resolution that urges Maryland General Assembly and governor to decriminalize possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
The council believes the possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia should not be a priority for law enforcement. Its resolution urges to “make adult paraphernalia possession a civil offense, no more serious than adult possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana,” the Marijuana Policy Coalition of Maryland said in a statement.
In April, the General Assembly adopted a bill decriminalizing possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana, and Gov. Martin O’Malley signed it into law.
This is a first step towards this type of decriminalization in the county.
