Garrett County Woman Killed In House Fire

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is currently working to determine the cause of a fatal fire that claimed the life of a 38 year-old female occupant.
Nearly 50 firefighters from Accident, Bittinger, Deep Creek and Grantsville Volunteer Fire Departments responded to 6918 Rock Lodge Road in Accident after a call from the victim to the Garrett County Emergency Operations Center at 2:20 a.m. this morning. First arriving firefighters located the unconscious victim on a bedroom floor near the living room of the one story, single family dwelling. She was quickly transported to Garrett Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased from heavy smoke inhalation injuries received during the blaze. The fire was quickly brought under control within ten minutes and contained to the living room of the residence.
Investigators with the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Maryland State Police are working to determine the cause of the fire and confirm the cause of death. Smoke alarms were present and operating at the time of the fire. Damage estimates to the structure and contents are $65,000.
