Goucher Poll Measure MD Senator Approval Ratings

October 29th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The new Goucher Poll released this week measured approval ratings for Maryland's two U.S. senators. The poll found 44% either approve or strongly approve the job Senator Chris Van Hollen is doing. That number, unchanged from a February 2017 poll, which was the last time Van Hollen's approval rating was measured.   Incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin's approval rating stands at 46% in the Goucher Poll, up from 45% in the 2017 poll.  Van Hollen is up for election next year, while Cardin does not face reelection until 2024. Goucher Poll director and political science professor Mileah Kromer Kromer noted that for both Cardin and Van Hollen, less than a third of those polled responded "don't know" when asked about either senator.  She says that is not unexpected as many people say they are not familiar with their work…

She said while the numbers are not outstanding, they do show strong party support for Van Hollen as he enters an election year…
