Gov-Elect Meets With House Speaker

December 20th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

As he prepares to take office in just over a month from now, Republican Governor-elect Larry Hogan met Friday  with Democratic House Speaker Michael Busch to discuss ways to address a $1.2-billion deficit projected for the next 18 months. Hogan was  joined by Senior Budget Adviser Bobby Neall, Legislative Director and Sen. Joe Getty and Chief of Staff Craig Williams for the meeting with Busch, and other House Democrats. Although closed to the media, Busch told WBAL News that the meeting focused on the deficit, and, "the process that he's going to use to put the budget together." Last week, Hogan ordered Neall and other members of his transition team to come up with ways to balance this year's budget as well as next year's to close the state's projected deficit. Neall was expected to submit the budget ideas to Hogan by now, as Hogan prepares a budget that is due to be formally submitted to the Maryland General Assembly by January 23, which is two days after Hogan takes office. Hogan has previously said that tax or fee increases  will not be used to balance the budget.
