Gov. Hogan Outlines Legislation Honoring Service Of First Responders

Making good on a campaign promise he announced last fall during a trip to Allegany County- Maryland Governor Larry Hogan held a ceremony last week to outline specifics of two pieces of legislation directed toward honoring the service and sacrifice of Maryland first responders and professional firefighters in the 2019 legislative session. The governor made the announcement at Eastport Fire Station 36 in Annapolis but it was during a visit to Cumberland this past  October that the governor first discussed the concept-  saying that  the legislation “is good economic policy, but more importantly, it is the right thing to do”.  The measure would be an expansion of a bill Hogan proposed in the 2018 legislative session. It exempted retired police, fire and emergency response workers from state income taxes on part of their retirement income. The legislation would also expand the exemption to cover all retirement income.
