Governor Hogan Urges Legislators To Act On The More Jobs For Marylanders Act

Governor Hogan’s Proposed Legislation Expands The Reach Of The More Jobs For Marylanders Act To Additional Jurisdictions, Adds Multiple Industry Sectors, In Addition To Manufacturing, That  Are Eligible For Tax Credits. “‘Qualified activity’ means: mining; transportation services; communication services; agriculture, forestry, or fishing; research, development, or testing; biotechnology-related activities; computer programming, information technology, or other computer-related services; central services for a business entity engaged in financial services, real estate services, or insurance services; the operation of central administrative offices; the operation of a company headquarters other than the headquarters of a professional sports organization; warehousing; or business services… A Tier I county may select up to three qualified activities for eligibility for the Program.” (“House Bill 363,” Maryland General Assembly, 1/24/18)

The More Jobs For Marylanders Act Has Created Jobs Across Maryland

In 2017, Governor Hogan Proposed And Enacted The More Jobs For Marylanders Act To Incentivize Job Creation In Areas Of The State That Need Jobs Most. “The legislation – which takes effect June 1, 2017 – provides tax incentives for new and existing manufacturers to create thousands of jobs, along with additional workforce development initiatives that the governor supports. New manufactures opening shop in high-unemployment (Tier 1) counties would receive a 5.75% wage tax credit, a state property tax credit, and a sales and use tax credit for ten years. The legislation also waives state filing fees, and all incentives are contingent on the company creating at least five jobs.
