Great Allegany Run Today

The 34th Great Allegany Run is set for today (Oct. 3)  with traffic pattern changes along the race route. The event features a 15 kilometer footrace from Mount Savage to Cumberland and a 5K race within Cumberland. The Little Allegany Run will be held for kids on South Centre Street at the conclusion of the 15K race. The 15K (9.3 mile) footrace will begins near the Masonic Building in Mount Savage at and proceed to downtown Cumberland along the westbound shoulder of state Route 36, Route 40 through the Narrows, Mechanic Street, Queen City Drive and Harrison Street, and finish near the downtown Cumberland mall on South Centre Street.  There will be some traffic delays on Route 36 in Mount Savage at the start of the race and the westbound lane of Route 40 through the Narrows will be closed for about one hour at the start of the race.  Police officers and other volunteers will be directing traffic at many of the intersections along the race route. The out‑and‑back 5K in town run in downtown Cumberland will include portions of South Centre and Frederick streets, the shopping center parking lot, South George Street and the end portion of the 15K course. The 5K finishes at the same point on the downtown mall. About 200 participants expected. The Great Allegany Run is organized by the Queen City Striders, a local running club, and social service programs of the Cumberland YMCA benefit.
