Grim on City’s Financial Status: “Increase Tax Base or Raise Taxes”

While the proposed Rolling Mill economic development project has its share of critics- Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim tells WCBC News that the city is close to a fiscal crisis- and expanding the tax base by such projects is the only feasible way to move forward.  Work continues on demolishing properties in Rolling Mill to make way for a commercial development including a national chain restaurant- about a dozen holdouts aren’t willing to move- and that could impact the scale of the project. Without increasing the tax base, the only other options for the city would be tax hikes, or dramatic cuts to services such as police and fire…
