Group Carefully Considering Gun Bill Referendum

April 17th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

It appears opponents of the gun control bill approved in this year's legislative session will try to put the issue on next year's ballot. MDPetitions.com, which is chaired by Washington County Delegate Neil Parrott is scheduled to make an announcement regarding a petition drive at a fundraiser Wednesday night at Blob's Park in Jessup. Parrott is scheduled to be joined at the event by representatives from the National Rifle Association, Maryland Shall Issue and the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore. He said recently that his group was taking an online survey of voters to see if there was interest in bringing the issue to referendum. Parrot's group was behind the effort to get same sex marriage, the DREAM Act, and the state's congressional redistricting plan before voters last year.  All three failed as voters supported the bills as approved. Parrot acknowledged after the gun bill was approved by the general assembly last month that mounting another battle to overturn a controversial measure is something he would have to weigh carefully before making any final decisions…
