Calls to WCBC News report an outbreak of head lice has occured at the Finan Center. Indications are that a female patient at the facility is refusing to have her hair cut to treat the problem and some other patients are concerned. Allegany County Health Officer Dr Sue Raver said the department has been made aware of the problem, and that the patient in question is isolated from other patients.

Cutting hair is not a treatment for head lice. Over the counter and prescription shampoo is the way to treat head lice. Also lice spread easily from one person to another through close contact or through shared clothing or personal items (such as hats or hairbrushes). A louse cannot jump or fly.
