Health Care Costs Creating Headache For School System

The cost of providing health care to employees and retirees is skyrocketing and creating a major budget headache for the Allegany County Public School system.

Superintendent Dr David Cox says that’s a prime reason that a cut of the budget by the county commissioners is proving to be a significant challenge…





Dr Cox tells us that keeping health care coverage intact has taken a toll on the fund balance of the system, but that that balance does remain in the black.  Operating in the red is contrary to state law, so cutting programs and positions seems to be the only options available to the system.
