Health Metrics Determining Factor in Decision to Cancel ACPS Winter Sports

January 13th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

After receiving an update on athletics during Tuesday’s meeting, the Allegany County Board of Education voted 4-1 to forego playing winter sports and proceed with fall sports, pending appropriate county health metrics. The briefing was presented by Tracey Leonard, Assistant Supervisor of Health, PE, Athletics, and Mental Health…

After some discussion, the board voted for the fall sports scenario with the first available practice date being February 13.  This decision was made as a result of the limited number of play dates available for winter sports after mandatory practices concluded as well as current county health metrics. Board member Dr David Bohn was the lone dissenting vote.
