Hershberger Expresses Optimism in Downtown Mall Projects

Plans remain on track to open the downtown Cumberland pedestrian mall to vehicle and bicycle traffic and limited parking. The plan, estimated to cost between $3.7 million and $5 million, was developed by the Sage Policy Group and McCormick Taylor, design and engineering consultants based in Baltimore- and ARC funding has been secured for the planning and design phase. The plan includes placing one-way streets with bicycle lanes between George and Centre streets and Liberty and Mechanic streets. The downtown mall is one of several opportunity corridors identified by the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation. In one of his final appearances as CEDC executive director, Shawn Hershberger expressed optimism in the project.  A boutique hotel at the former M&T building is part of the overall plan…
