October 7th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Gov. Larry Hogan on Friday authorized Maryland's assistance for Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts.

The Maryland Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team is headed to South Carolina, along with a Maryland National Guard helicopter carrying a crew of four plus two rescue swimmers and swiftwater technicians from Baltimore County Fire Department, Hogan said in a Facebook post.

"It is essential that we all work together in times of emergency, and Maryland stands ready to offer these rescue resources, which can make the difference between life and death in dangerous flooding," Hogan wrote. "The First Lady and I are keeping all those in areas threatened by this storm in our prayers."

Baltimore Gas and Electric, Pepco and other regional utilities are also sending crews to assist in restoring power to Florida and Georgia areas hit hardest by the storm.
