Hogan orders use of face masks in retail stores

April 15th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Gov. Larry Hogan on Wednesday announced an executive order requiring Marylanders to wear face coverings in retail stores as well as on any form of public transportation in the state.  Additionally, the order requires that retail staff wear masks and that employers of retail stores incorporate social distancing measures to protect shoppers, including requiring spacing of customers in line and sanitizing or providing ways of sanitizing carts and baskets available to customers.

The order is due to go into effect at 7 a.m. Saturday.

I went to Walmart to stock up on TP and noticed none of the stockers were wearing masks. I was, and had a hell of a time keeping my glasses from fogging up just from normal breathing. I feel sorry for those workers who will now be required to wear masks while they work. I can understand the reasons why but it will still be a burden.

      > FYI, A little secret to keep your glasses from fogging up while wearing masks. Take a dab of shaving cream, and coat both inside and out. Let it sit for a minute or two. Then you take a soft cloth and rub the shaving cream off. The shaving cream will leave an invisible film that will repel moisture, and keep fog from forming. It will also work on face shields. As far as this mandate being dumb, ridiculous, etc, it is better to be sake than sorry.

I just can not get over being dictated to wear something but have NO ability to get it. I have not been able to find any anywhere locally for a month. I’ve asked a pharmacist and they can’t get them. Online ordering says mid-May till you can get it. I watched a little of Hogan’s press conference and watched him remove his mask at the podium, then break social distancing to give the sign language star a plaque. Then the follow-up speaker to the podium did not wear a mask while speaking. After I’ve commented, watch for Ken or Mac to jump in and defend this mess.

      > Why in the hell would you think that I would defend a requirement you can’t meet. I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY.
I’m more than willing to wear a mask but if I’m unable to buy one, and not get ripped off in the process, I’ll just have to do without.

I understand that getting masks is difficult right now. If you can’t buy one, you can easily make one.

The fact is not having a mask could prevent you from entering a store – and that is crazy.

Right now, we are fortunate to have almost no viral impact in our area. And while we are being fed a steady diet of this pandemic is winding down, it isn’t.

Currently, we have 20 or so confirmed cases here. If the national averages are to be accepted, we might expect 200 total active cases. If one or two of them work at a place like Walmart, Martins, or American Woodmark, we could end up with a real problem.

I posted a link that described what happened in South Dakota and the last thing we want is for that to happen here.

This isn’t a joke. I know most of you understand that. As of today, we have over 30,000 dead in less than a six week period and currently we are seeing more than 2,000 America dying every day.

If you own any piece of cloth and are not totally incompetent, you can make your own.I agree that the mandate is dumb though.

The mask keeps you from spreading it, not getting it

Think about it. When you wear a mask and sneeze, what happens? The mask blows away from your face and the virus spreads. Yes, a mask will cut that down somewhat but that’s not what a mask is designed to do.

When you breath in, the mask pulls tighter to your face. This helps prevent the micro-droplets that contain the virus from being inhaled.

Not even close to legal. A state governor can only recommend, he cannot order anything without due process. Hogan’s authority is limited by our Constitution.

Face coverings being required and zero percent interest rates might reasonably lead one to suspect that we are living under Islam. I guess Hogan’s demands for our submission make the trifecta of evidence.

Great advice from Poor Richard’s Almanac during a 21st century pandemic. Ridiculously dumb.
