Hogan Reacts to Override of Education Funding Veto

Maryland House of Delegates voted mostly along party lines Monday to override Governor Larry Hogan's veto of the Kirwan Commission's education plan. Supporters of the Kirwan Education Commission’s recommendations gathered outside the Maryland State House, showing signs of support for lawmakers who were hours away from the vote. The debate lasted for about an hour and ultimately ended with a 95 to 37 vote. Delegates Mike Mckay, Jason Buckel and Wendell Beitzel voted against the override. Republicans voiced opposition to the vote to override the veto, arguing the plan comes up short and there are better ways to ensure students and faculty have the necessary support.
