Hogan’s School Improvement Announcement Draws Mixed Reactions

Maryland Governor  Larry Hogan announced last week  a $3.8 billion proposal  he says will improve public schools in the state by constructing new school buildings and providing opportunities for creativity in turning around low-rated schools.  Lawmakers have mixed feelings regarding the governor's proposed plan. Some approve, while others say Hogan is ignoring the Kirwan Commission's work. Sen. Bill Ferguson said in a statement he was "pleased" by Hogan's proposal, while House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones feels Hogan is undervaluing the work of the Kirwan Commission.  Keiffer Mitchell, the governor’s chief legislative officer, has been making the rounds since the announcement- lobbying for support.
