Hooley Plunge Today

March 3rd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The 14th Hooley Plunge, where hundreds of community members endure the freezing cold waters of Lake Habeeb to raise funds for multiple local nonprofits, as well as fully sustain the county's Special Olympics program, is set for March 3. The event has raised more than $1 million, making it the largest single-day fundraiser in the county. Last year, it generated more than $168,000.

Now in its thirteenth year and with more than 600 participants, the Hooley Plunge has become the largest single day fundraising event in Allegany County- and the big day has arrived. The inspiration of Dr. Sean McCagh, the Hooley Plunge annually raises money for the Special Olympics of Allegany County and several other local programs for the developmentally disabled by having hundreds of area residents  jump into the frigid waters of Lake Habeeb at Rocky Gap State Park. Taking over the co-chair responsibilities this year from Dr. McCagh and Jim Stafford are Alhambra members, Murray Gornall and Rob Adams.
