Fire At Ark Of Hope Rescue In Oldtown

An early morning fire has killed dozens of cats that were housed at the Ark of Hope Rescue on Arctic Ridge Lane in Oldtown.

According to Allegany County 911, the fire was reported at about 1:30 PM, and two people were taken to the hospital for treament of what are said to be minor injuries.

Over 30 firefighters responded to the scene, and dogs that were housed in a kennel were released in the early stages of the blaze.

The Maryland State FIre Marshal's office is conducting an invesgitation.  Local animal welfare advocates are organizing a response to help the victims and animals in this case, and the American Red Cross will be helping with the displacement of the family..
