House Of Representatives Passes Bills To End Partial Government Shutdown

The first order of business with the seating of the new House of Representatives and Nancy Pelosi's re-ascendancy as House speaker was to pass a pair of bills to end the partial government shutdown, which has entered its third week. One bill will keep eight of the affected departments open and funded through the end of the fiscal year in September. The other will keep the Department of Homeland Security funded at current levels until Feb. 8. That's so lawmakers can work out an impasse with President Donald Trump and his demand for billions to build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.  Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, said the president is essentially holding the employees of eight federal agencies hostage in order to get funding for his border wall- and it’s unfair to those men and women and their families…
