If Salary Study Commission Study Approved Local Officials Could See Pay Increase

If the recommendations of the Salary Study Commission are approved by the Allegany County Commissioners- the annual compensation for the office holder of sheriff will be $100,000 by the year 2022. The commission, chaired by Stu Czapski, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, presented the recommendations for six different elected seats during the most recent public meeting. 3% annual increases between 2019 and 2022 are recommended for Orphans Court Judges; and Board of Election members. A $500 annual hike for those four years for the Allegany County Commissioners which will increase the salary to close to $35,000 in 2022.  By far the biggest increase is for the position of sheriff- currently held by Craig Robertson. The commission recommends a $5,000 hike each year for four years raising the salary to six figures. Czapski said the commission did extensive research including looking at the salaries of law enforcement officers in other jurisdictions…
