We would like to alert citizens that tax season is in full swing and is bringing out the scammers at an alarming rate.

Currently, the most prevalent scam effecting people is a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative of the IRS or other government agency threatening to take legal action if you don't submit payment. The caller tends to be very aggressive and demanding.

If a suspicious phone call is received the citizen might consider telling the caller that a call to the IRS will be made directly – it is advisable to use an IRS phone number that is listed on the official website, not one given by the caller in question.

Victims may report calls and report them to  irs.gov or ic3.gov
