Maryland's infant mortality rate is at a record low according to Governor Martin O'Malley. According to WBAL News, state health officials announced the latest figures this week. The infant mortality rate in 2012 was 6.3 per 1,000 live births, down six percent from 2011. The infant mortality rate fell by 21 percent from 2008 to 2012- this figure represents 159 fewer infant deaths in 2012 than in 2008.
