Initial Funding Commitment May Not Be Enough For New Allegany High School

Although there were lengthy, often times heated debates last year between the Allegany County Board of Education and the County Commissioners over funding for a new Allegany High School- ultimately a compromise was reached, and the county agreed to make it a top capital priority. The initial funding commitment however may not be enough according to School Board member Mike Llewellyn. The hope is that the new school will open its doors in the fall of 2017- however state dollars for such projects are often in a state of flux. Llewellyn says he hopes the fact that the board is delaying major renovations to Cumberland’s two middle schools will offer assurances to the commissioners that the board won’t be back anytime soon asking for major dollars for capital projects…
