Jack Kegg Passes At 67

March 13th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Jack Kegg, perhaps the most knowledgeable person regarding recorded popular music in our area, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the age of 67.

Kegg had continued a long family association with the Cumberland Times News, dating back for over a century.  His father, the legendary J. Suter Kegg, had inspired Jack to take up writing, and for many years, he wrote the popular Jack’s Music column for the paper, and later for wcbcradio.com.

Jack had an extensive record collection, ranging from 78’s to 45’s and LP’s.  He was particularly proud of his jukebox which played 78’s, and was devoted to the Big Band era and early Rock and Roll.

He had a particular devotion to cats that he would adopt and spent countless hours volunteering at the Allegany County Animal Shelter.

Mr. Kegg was a devoted fan of Allegany High School and its sports teams, and could often be found in the ticket booth at Camper Football and Basketball games.  He was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Colts and Ravens, but would support other regional teams should they advance further in the playoffs.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
