JCPenney to Close Country Club Mall Store

JCPenney announced Thursday evening that it would be closing over 150 stores nationwide, including the one in Country Club Mall.

The company released the following on its internet blog:

"Following a comprehensive review of our retail footprint, JCPenney made the difficult decision to close 154 stores. We will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want."

Three Stores in Maryland were on the list.

Further details have not been released.

    Not a surprise – it lasted far longer than I expected given the weak economy here.

    CCM has been on life support for ages. I remember it back in the late 70′s and early 80′s, and it was a zoo. Now, even the crickets have abandonded it. As much as I hate to say it, JC Penney pulling out may be the death knell. I don’t think Walmart and a handful of boutique and specialty stores will be enough to keep it afloat.

      > I agree. Besides the keep it closed folks are hiding in their basements being the Red Forman crowd from that 70s show celebrating while drinking and smoking marijuana with their tin foil hats on. They made sure no one can go out and have jobs to keep a JC Penny in business.
