Jealous Says Gov. Hogan Has Failed When It Comes To Education

September 17th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Democrat gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous says the incumbent Larry Hogan’s administration has failed when it comes to education- and that is one of the issues that will lead him to victory in November. Currently Jealous trails Hogan by double-digits in recent polling in Maryland- but Jealous believes that the voters he has been meeting with and talking too tell a different story.  He says that they are frustrated that our schools have fallen in the rankings every year Hogan has been in office and that they are frustrated that health care costs have increased each of the past four years. In addition, he says voters feel less safe than they did prior to Hogan taking office. On the education front, Jealous says that while Hogan touts record funding of education, there is  a state-commissioned study claiming a $2.9 billion annual funding shortage in the state's schools. Besides increasing funding, Jealous said he would move to modernize budget management, noting schools in Maryland still manage their budgets on paper, meaning it takes months to account for where money was actually spent…
